Superglue, that wonderful invention for sticking your fingers to your earlobe. It only has a couple of weaknesses. Firstly it appears to be bio-engineered to be inactive when in the presence of a wargames figure. Secondly – and this is the purpose of this post – it tends to dry up well before you have finished the tube or bottle.
In recent years I have mostly avoided this issue. The source of the problem is usually one of cloggage in the nozzle that no amount of careful plugging will prevent. A way to avoid this though, is to avoid the nozzle entirely….
This really works best with the gel type superglues. Remove the nozzle assembly. Then use a cocktail stick or a Costa* stirrer to dab out a small amount of gel as needed onto the part requiring glue. When finished, wipe your stick and reattach the nozzle. Precise application and no cloggage.
I’ve actually completed finished several bottles of gel since moving to this technique. I’m sure it’s not a discovery but I have registered an application with the Patents Office just in case.
I’m not going to recommend a brand of glue since thats a conversation where we all end up losing. Though I do tend to buy Gorilla Glue Gel.
* Other brands of stirrer are available but don’t use Starbucks. Because that means you will actually have to go into a Starbucks.
I’ve been using Loctite Power Gel which hasnt clogged at all and the last bottle I emptied. I do still sometimes deposit a little on a pallette and then apply with a cocktail stick.
Totally agree re Starbucks though…
